Kerala became the first state in India to allow hydrogen-powered vehicle – Toyota Mirai – get registered with its RTO.
The vehicle comes with a shade of flame red colour, and there are also other colours in which the Mirai is sold.
The Mirai is registered to Toyota Kirloskar at Thiruvananthapuram’s RTO. Research is being done Mirai for the network of hydrogen fuel stations that will be needed to run hydrogen-powered vehicles.
Toyota Mirai is already part of a pilot project. It is with International Centre for Automotive Technology or ICAT. The main focus of the project is to spread awareness of alternative fuels.
Mirai can be used to study hydrogen-powered vehicles because the Indian government is trying to run heavy vehicles on hydrogen power.
The plans to bring Mirai to India were postponed because of the slow growth of creating the infrastructure for hydrogen refilling.
The registration number provided to Mirai is KL 1 CU 7610. RTO did not take any tax and the registration was done online. So far, only the registration fee has been collected from the manufacturer.
Earlier, some reports claim that the Mirai is worth $0.014 million (Rs. 1.1 crore).
