The Brazilian State Environment Council has approved Fortescue’s environmental impact study for the production of green hydrogen at the Pecém Industrial and Port Complex in Ceará.
Fortescue Latin America environment manager Gianpaola Ciniglio said that the approval showed the state of Ceará’s commitment to environmental sustainability and economic growth.
Once constructed, the plant will have final production capacity of 837 tonnes per day of green hydrogen, based on consuming 2.1 gigawatts of renewable power. Operations at the plant are expected to begin in 2027.
