Bureau Veritas and Everllence Sign Five-Year Maritime Decarbonisation Partnership

Bureau Veritas Marine and Offshore and Everllence have signed a five-year strategic collaboration agreement covering maritime decarbonisation and digitalisation, with the partnership running through September 2031.

The Framework Agreement for Strategic Collaboration was signed during SMM 2026 in Hamburg and brings together Everllence’s expertise in marine propulsion, energy systems and emissions-reduction technologies with Bureau Veritas’s capabilities in classification, technical assessment and regulatory support.

Partnership to Focus on Alternative Fuels and Digital Technologies

The collaboration will cover a range of technologies and solutions aimed at supporting the shipping industry’s transition toward lower-emission operations.

Key areas of cooperation will include alternative marine fuels, advanced propulsion concepts and digital solutions. The companies will also exchange technical knowledge and work on projects intended to address specific customer and industry requirements.

The agreement provides a broader framework for cooperation rather than committing the companies to a fixed portfolio of projects. Individual initiatives will be established through separate sub-agreements as technologies, regulations and market requirements develop.

Annual Steering Group to Oversee Collaboration

The framework establishes a governance structure for managing the partnership.

An annual Steering Group meeting will bring representatives from the two companies together to assess progress, review significant developments across the maritime sector and identify potential areas for further cooperation.

Individual projects can subsequently be formalised through dedicated agreements, allowing the partnership to respond to changes in technology and regulatory requirements without requiring the main framework to be renegotiated.

Decarbonisation and Digitalisation at the Centre

The partnership combines Everllence’s technology portfolio in propulsion and energy systems with Bureau Veritas’s role in classification, technical assessment and regulatory support.

The companies will focus on developing practical applications of emerging technologies, particularly in areas where decarbonisation and digitalisation are increasingly interconnected.

Alternative fuels and propulsion technologies are expected to remain central to the industry’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, while digital systems can support operational efficiency, monitoring and compliance.

Companies Target Practical Maritime Applications

Christian Ludwig, Vice President at Everllence, described the partnership as reflecting the belief that the maritime industry’s most important challenges can only be addressed through strong collaboration, combining complementary expertise and a shared commitment to technical excellence.

He said the common vision for decarbonisation and digitalisation is intended to create tangible value for customers while helping shape a safer, more efficient and more sustainable future for shipping.

The five-year agreement provides the two companies with a framework for developing joint initiatives as maritime regulations, fuel technologies and digital solutions continue to evolve.
