Imabari Delivers Ammonia and Methanol-Ready Container Ship to ONE

Imabari Shipbuilding’s Hiroshima Shipyard has delivered the ONE SINCERITY, a 13,900 TEU container vessel, to Ocean Network Express (ONE).

The vessel, classed by Lloyd’s Register and registered under the Singapore flag, is designed to be converted to run on ammonia or methanol fuel in the future. It has also received approval in principle to be equipped with a carbon capture system.

Measuring nearly 336 meters in length and 51 meters in width, the ship has a gross tonnage of 140,233 and is powered by a 7G95ME-C10.6 main engine, enabling a service speed of around 22 knots. It can carry approximately 13,932 standard containers and is equipped with up to four layers of lashing bridges, allowing for the transport of refrigerated containers both below deck and on deck, as well as dangerous goods covered under the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code.

The design incorporates advanced analysis tools to optimize ship type and efficiency under varying operational conditions. Fuel performance is further enhanced with energy-saving devices, twisted rudders, low-friction hull coatings, and a bow wind cover. According to the shipbuilder, these features are expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 60 percent compared with conventional designs, exceeding the latest regulatory requirements.

To meet current air emission standards, the ship is equipped with a hybrid exhaust gas cleaning system, an exhaust gas recirculation unit, and a ballast water treatment system. The vessel is also compliant with the Ship Recycling Convention through a certified inventory of hazardous materials.

The delivery follows the naming earlier this year of ONE Sparkle, ONE’s first 13,000 TEU ammonia and methanol-ready container ship, constructed by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.
