Peninsula has expanded its marine fuel infrastructure in the Port of Rotterdam with the commissioning of a new storage and blending facility at the Chane Terminal, strengthening its biofuel supply capabilities in the ARA region.
Phase 1 Commissioned with 30,000 m³ Capacity
The first phase of development is now operational and includes nine dedicated tanks for biofuel storage and blending, providing a combined capacity of 30,000 cubic metres. The site is ISCC certified and Nea registered, ensuring traceability and compliance across all activities.
The terminal is equipped with three jetties and seven berths for barges up to 135 metres, along with a jetty for seagoing vessels. The configuration supports efficient inter-terminal transfers with major oil companies and aims to streamline biofuel logistics at Europe’s busiest port.
Phase 2 to Lift Capacity to 110,000 m³ in 2026
A second expansion phase, scheduled for January 2026, will add eight additional tanks, increasing total capacity to 110,000 cubic metres. Peninsula said the additional storage will enhance flexibility in supplying blended marine fuels and broaden its operational footprint in north-west Europe.
Flexible Biofuel Blending Capabilities
The facility enables the blending of all major biofuel grades, including HSFO and VLSFO blends ranging from B5 to B100. Peninsula will manage blending ratios in-house, giving customers greater control over specifications and product quality.
The terminal is expected to support the company’s wider biofuel strategy as demand rises for lower-carbon marine fuels across Europe’s shipping sector. “We are delighted to expand our footprint in Rotterdam, Europe’s largest port. This new facility not only strengthens our operational capabilities but also demonstrates Peninsula’s ongoing commitment to sustainable marine energy solutions. By investing in advanced infrastructure and flexible blending options, we are empowering our customers to meet their decarbonisation goals with confidence,” said Thomas Van Hoeteghem, Regional Supply Manager North-West Europe at Peninsula.
