PortXchange Named Finalist in European DIGITAL SME Awards’ Green Category

PortXchange has been shortlisted as one of three finalists in the Green Category of the European DIGITAL SME Awards, which recognise small and medium-sized enterprises developing digital tools that deliver measurable environmental benefits. The other two finalists in the category are Builtrix and Vaayu.

The Green Category highlights digital solutions that demonstrate how technology can support emissions reduction and broader climate objectives. According to the organisers, shortlisted companies represent the leading edge of data-driven sustainability innovation in Europe.

PortXchange was selected for its emissions-intelligence platform, EmissionInsider, which allows ports to map and analyse emissions from sea-going vessels, barges, trucks and rail operations. The platform provides ports with full emissions visibility and supports planning for decarbonisation initiatives.

EmissionInsider uses AI-based intelligence, hotspot identification and heatmap analysis to pinpoint major emission sources. It offers breakdowns by vessel type, facility, transport mode and pollutant, and supports shore power planning by assessing demand and potential avoided emissions. The system also includes what-if scenario modelling, voyage-emissions tracking and standardized reporting compatible with external systems.

The Port of Rotterdam, EmissionInsider’s launch customer, is using the platform across multiple departments to centralise emissions reporting and inform decarbonisation investment decisions.

As a certified B Corporation, PortXchange positions its work as part of a broader commitment to responsible business and sustainable port operations. The company has seen growing demand for emissions-intelligence tools, with recent expansion across Northern and Southern Europe and new decarbonisation projects underway in the Americas.

Commenting on the nomination, Sjoerd de Jager, CEO of PortXchange, said:
“To be recognized as one of three finalists confirms the importance of the work we’re doing. EmissionInsider proves that ports don’t have to wait for 2030 or 2050 to take meaningful action; they can, and should, reduce emissions now. Transparent, data-driven insight is the foundation of credible decarbonization. This nomination reflects the dedication of our team and the ports choosing to lead rather than wait.”

With ports facing increasing regulatory, financial and community expectations, emissions visibility is becoming a strategic requirement. Tools like EmissionInsider allow port authorities to move beyond periodic reporting and adopt continuous, data-driven environmental management. The European DIGITAL SME Awards ceremony will take place in December, where PortXchange will be represented by its CEO.
