Chimbusco Pan Nation (CPN) has launched a B100 marine biodiesel supply service in Hong Kong following the technical upgrade of its bunker tanker Guo Si, which is now the city’s first Type II-certified bunker tanker dedicated to B100 operations.
The vessel’s certification marks an expansion of Hong Kong’s renewable marine fuel infrastructure and follows CPN’s earlier introduction of B30 marine biofuel supply in April 2025. With the upgrade, Guo Si is approved for the handling and delivery of pure marine biodiesel (B100), enabling compliant bunkering operations for vessels seeking higher biofuel blends.
Type II certification and regulatory compliance
The upgrade was carried out in accordance with the International Maritime Organization’s IBC Code and local regulations under Hong Kong Cap. 413E, which govern the construction and operation of chemical tanker vessels. Type II certification allows the tanker to safely transport cargoes that require a higher level of containment, reflecting the handling requirements associated with B100 marine biodiesel.
According to CPN, the modifications establish dedicated systems and procedures to support the safe, reliable and compliant supply of pure biofuels in the port.
First mover in B100 bunkering in Hong Kong
With the certification of Guo Si, CPN becomes the only operator in Hong Kong with a Type II-certified bunker tanker approved specifically for B100 marine biodiesel supply. The development positions the company to support shipowners and operators seeking to reduce lifecycle emissions through the use of higher biofuel blends.
The move also aligns with broader decarbonisation efforts in the maritime sector, as ports and fuel suppliers expand infrastructure to accommodate alternative and renewable marine fuels.
