BGN has signed a contract with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI) for the construction of two dual-fuel Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs), expanding its owned LPG carrier fleet and strengthening its position in the global gas shipping market.
The new vessels will each have a cargo capacity of 93,000 cubic metres and are scheduled for delivery from HD HHI’s shipyard in South Korea by 2029.
The order follows BGN’s recent addition of four traditional dual-fuel VLGCs and will increase the company’s owned VLGC fleet to 19 vessels.
Newbuildings Designed for Alternative Fuel Flexibility
According to BGN, the vessels will be capable of operating on both conventional and lower-emission fuels. In addition to transporting liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), the carriers will also be able to carry ammonia, providing flexibility as demand for alternative marine fuels and ammonia transport grows.
The capability to transport ammonia aligns with broader industry efforts to support maritime decarbonisation and the development of future low-carbon fuel supply chains.
Fleet Expansion Supports Long-Term Growth Strategy
The latest investment forms part of BGN’s ongoing fleet expansion and modernisation programme aimed at supporting growing global demand for LPG transportation and energy commodities.
With one of the largest owned and chartered fleets in its sector, the company continues to invest in vessel capacity and operational efficiency while strengthening its global shipping network.
BGN said the newbuildings will help enhance supply chain resilience and support its long-term growth objectives in the liquefied gas transportation market.
