MHS and WE Tech Form Strategic Partnership to Advance Maritime Electrification in Nordic Market

Marine Hybrid Solutions (MHS) and WE Tech Solutions (WE Tech) have formalised a strategic partnership aimed at delivering integrated electrification solutions for the maritime sector, combining power electronics, automation, energy management and digital fleet services under a single offering.

The collaboration, which has been operational since August 2025, seeks to provide shipowners and shipyards in Norway and the wider Nordic region with end-to-end support for vessel electrification projects, from system design and installation to performance monitoring and lifecycle support.

The partnership combines WE Tech’s WE Drive™ technology and shaft generator systems with MHS’s expertise in system integration, project delivery and digital fleet management platforms.

Integrated Approach to Maritime Electrification

Under the agreement, WE Tech contributes its portfolio of power electronics and energy-efficient propulsion technologies, which have been installed on nearly 300 vessels globally. The systems are designed to improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions and provide greater operational flexibility across a range of vessel types.

MHS will serve as the primary contractor and systems integrator, while also providing its Miira Cloud and Miira Onboard digital platforms for performance monitoring, energy management and operational support.

Together, the companies will offer a complete delivery chain covering feasibility studies, system engineering, installation, commissioning, aftermarket services and continuous performance optimisation.

According to the companies, the integrated approach is intended to reduce project complexity for shipowners pursuing hybrid and electrification upgrades.

First Joint Hybrid-Electric Project Underway

The partnership has already resulted in several ongoing projects, including a hybrid-electric retrofit onboard MS Canoline for Norwegian operator Salten Shipping.

The installation is expected to be completed during the summer of 2026 and will serve as an early example of the combined capabilities of both companies in delivering integrated hybrid propulsion systems.

Norway Driving Demand for Vessel Electrification

The companies identified Norway as a natural starting point for the partnership, citing increasing regulatory requirements and decarbonisation initiatives across the country’s maritime sector.

Electrification efforts are being supported by mechanisms such as the NOx Fund and upcoming Fjord Zero emission requirements, which are accelerating investment in low- and zero-emission technologies for coastal shipping.

MHS brings established relationships with shipowners, shipyards and vessel designers in the Norwegian market, while WE Tech contributes extensive experience in marine electrification and power management systems.

Executives Highlight Long-Term Market Potential

Commenting on the partnership, Børge Nogva, CEO of MHS, said:

“The robust and proven deliveries of WE Tech, combined with MHS’s primary contractor responsibility and technological development, supporting ship-owners in their operations after delivery, create synergies our customers will benefit from, from the first analysis through to vessel operations. This partnership marks the beginning of something that will shape Norwegian and Nordic maritime electrification for years to come.”

Petter Bodman, General Manager of WE Tech Solutions AS, added:

“This partnership brings together proven technology and strong system integration capability to create real value for shipowners. By combining WE Tech’s advanced energy solutions with MHS’ integration expertise and digital platforms, we can deliver efficient, reliable, and future-ready hybrid systems that help customers meet evolving regulatory requirements while improving operational performance. The partnership model is designed to scale beyond the Nordic region, supporting global vessel electrification projects.”
