Wärtsilä Signs First LNG Cruise Lifecycle Agreement with Carnival Corporation

Wärtsilä has signed its first lifecycle service agreement covering Carnival Corporation’s LNG-fuelled cruise ships, securing an eight-year contract to provide maintenance and performance support for four cruise vessels across the Princess Cruises and Carnival Cruise Line fleets.

The agreement, booked in Q2 2026, covers two vessels already in service and two newbuild cruise ships currently under construction.

Long-Term Support for Dual-Fuel Engines

Under the agreement, Wärtsilä will deliver a comprehensive lifecycle maintenance programme for the vessels’ dual-fuel engines and associated equipment.

The performance-based contract is designed to enhance fleet reliability, maximise asset availability and optimise total cost of ownership while reducing unscheduled maintenance and unplanned downtime.

By combining original equipment manufacturer (OEM) expertise with digital solutions and global service capabilities, Wärtsilä will support the safe and efficient operation of Carnival Corporation’s LNG-powered cruise vessels throughout their operational lifecycle.

Comprehensive Lifecycle Services

The agreement includes:

• Planned and unplanned maintenance
• Spare parts supply and logistics
• Major engine overhauls
• Remote monitoring and condition-based maintenance
• Technical audits and performance reviews
• Advisory and engineering support
• Crew training
• Performance management based on agreed KPIs

The lifecycle framework is intended to improve operational performance through continuous monitoring, proactive maintenance and data-driven decision-making.

Carnival Corporation said the agreement reinforces its commitment to operational excellence, sustainability and delivering reliable cruise operations.

According to Vera Lannek, Vice President, Strategic Sourcing & Asset Management at Carnival Corporation, the long-term partnership will help strengthen vessel performance while maintaining the operational standards expected across its cruise brands.
