Deendayal Port to Begin Construction of 150 TPD e-Methanol Plant

Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) and Assam Petro-Chemicals Limited (APCL) are set to lay the foundation stone for a 150-tonnes-per-day (TPD) e-methanol plant at Deendayal Port in Gujarat on September 26, 2026.

The foundation stone laying ceremony will take place at the DPA Exhibition Ground in Gandhidham. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma are scheduled to lay the foundation stone.

The event will also be attended by Vinodbhai Chavda, Member of Parliament for Kutch-Morbi; Maltiben Maheshwari, Member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly for Gandhidham; Sushil Kumar Singh, IRSME, Chairman of Deendayal Port Authority; and Bikul Deka, Chairman of Assam Petro-Chemicals Limited.

Rs 2,300 Crore Investment Planned

The proposed e-methanol facility represents an investment of approximately Rs 2,300 crore. The project will combine APCL’s industrial capabilities with DPA’s port infrastructure and is planned to be developed through scalable modules.

Located within the Deendayal Port complex, the plant is intended to increase the availability of e-methanol for maritime applications and support the adoption of lower-carbon fuels in shipping.

E-methanol is being considered as an alternative marine fuel as the shipping industry works to reduce emissions and dependence on conventional fossil fuels. The proposed facility is also expected to support fuel availability for vessels operating on international routes.

Project Expected to Generate More Than 3,500 Jobs

According to the project plan, the facility is expected to create more than 3,500 direct and indirect employment opportunities.

The employment impact is expected to extend across skilled and technical workers, engineers, transport operators, suppliers and other businesses associated with the project.

The development is also expected to create additional commercial opportunities around Deendayal Port and contribute to economic activity in Gujarat’s Kutch region.

DPA-APCL Partnership Targets Maritime Green Fuel Supply

The project brings together DPA’s position as a major maritime gateway and APCL’s industrial capabilities in a joint effort to develop e-methanol production infrastructure.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to expand green-fuel production and support sustainable port development in India. Its location at Deendayal Port could also provide a direct link between e-methanol production and maritime fuel demand.
