CMA CGM Adds Another 15,000-TEU Methanol-Capable Container Ship

French container shipping company CMA CGM has added another methanol-capable vessel to its fleet with the launch of the 15,000-TEU CMA CGM Alceste.

The newbuild is equipped with a dual-fuel engine capable of operating on methanol as well as conventional marine fuels. The vessel is one of six 15,000-TEU ships being built by China’s Dalian Shipbuilding Industry (DSIC) for CMA CGM.

The company has not disclosed the vessel’s intended deployment or service route.

CMA CGM Expands Methanol-Capable Fleet

The CMA CGM Alceste joins a growing number of methanol-capable vessels being added to the company’s fleet as it expands its options for alternative marine fuels.

CMA CGM took delivery of several other methanol-capable container ships earlier in 2026. These include CMA CGM Roi Arthur in August, CMA CGM Bérénice in June, CMA CGM Esmeralda and CMA CGM Silver in April, and CMA CGM Carmen and CMA CGM Osmium in March.

The latest addition brings another 15,000-TEU vessel equipped for methanol operation into CMA CGM’s fleet, providing the company with additional flexibility as methanol bunkering infrastructure and supply develop across major shipping routes.
