HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Engine & Machinery (HHI-EMD) has completed the Type Approval Test (TAT) for its next-generation HiMSEN H35CDF LNG dual-fuel engine.
The test was conducted from September 21 to 23 at HHI-EMD’s Engine Techno Center, with representatives from seven major classification societies participating. The participating organisations included Korean Register, ABS, Bureau Veritas and DNV.
H35CDF Builds on Second-Generation HiMSEN Platform
The H35CDF has been developed on HiMSEN’s second-generation CLEAN Engine Platform and incorporates technologies and operational experience from the H35DF LNG dual-fuel engine.
The new engine is designed to improve efficiency while reducing methane slip. One of its key technologies is Variable Valve Timing (VVT), which enables more precise control of the air supplied to the combustion chamber during operation.
HHI-EMD developed the H35CDF in response to demand for higher-efficiency and higher-output marine engines, while expanding its range of LNG dual-fuel propulsion solutions.
LNG Dual-Fuel Engine Testing
HHI-EMD said LNG remains one of the most technologically established alternative marine fuels, supported by existing bunkering and supply infrastructure.
Completion of the Type Approval Test verifies the H35CDF against the applicable requirements of participating classification societies and supports its progression towards commercial applications.
The company said the successful test demonstrates the engine’s performance, reliability and safety characteristics and will support the further expansion of its LNG dual-fuel engine portfolio in the global marine market.
