Swiss marine engine designer WinGD has signed three long-term service agreements covering 14 dual-fuel liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers across three major shipowners and ship management companies.
Announced on 26 October 2026, the agreements involve COSCO Shipping LNG (Hong Kong) Ship Management, NYK LNG Shipmanagement and Greece-based TMS Cardiff Gas. The contracts cover vessels equipped with different generations of WinGD’s X-DF dual-fuel engines and extend the company’s lifecycle support services across major LNG shipping markets.
Benny Hilström, VP Market Development at WinGD, said: “These agreements demonstrate the growing importance operators place on long-term lifecycle support from the original engine designer.
“LNG markets depend on timely, reliable and safe deliveries, making the performance of the vessels supporting this global trade critical. These long-term service agreements give our customers, some of the biggest names in shipping, consistent access to the expertise, maintenance and technical support needed to keep their engines performing reliably throughout their operational lives.
“More than service agreements, these partnerships help customers maximise reliability, efficiency and operational performance while navigating increasingly complex technical and regulatory requirements.”
Three agreements cover different LNG carrier fleets
The agreement with COSCO Shipping LNG (Hong Kong) Ship Management runs for ten years and covers six LNG carriers powered by WinGD 6X72DF engines.
WinGD has also signed a five-year service agreement with NYK LNG Shipmanagement of Japan. The contract covers ten X-DF dual-fuel main engines installed across five LNG carriers.
The NYK fleet includes two vessels built in 2022 and 2024 by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), respectively. Both are equipped with WinGD 5X72DF engines. Three additional vessels, built by HHI in 2025 and 2026, use the newer 5X72DF-2.1 engine model.
The third agreement covers three newbuild LNG carriers operated by Athens-based TMS Cardiff Gas Ltd. Built by HD Hyundai Samho in South Korea, each vessel is equipped with two WinGD 5X72DF dual-fuel engines. WinGD described the arrangement as a long-term engine service agreement.
Service packages combine maintenance and digital monitoring
The agreements include spare parts for scheduled maintenance, technical labour, workshop services and advisory support. They also provide remote monitoring, troubleshooting and engine optimisation through WinGD’s WiDE digital platform.
The combination of onboard and workshop support with digital monitoring is intended to help operators plan maintenance and optimise engine performance according to individual vessel operating profiles.
Carmelo Cartalemi, Head of Strategic Marketing at WinGD, said: “No one understands X-DF engines quite like the people who designed them. We’ve spent years developing these engines and working with customers to understand how they perform in service, across different vessels and operating conditions. That experience gives us a real advantage in supporting them throughout their lifetime.
“Through Global Service by WinGD, we bring together that knowledge, insights from digital monitoring and a worldwide service network to support LNG carrier operators wherever their vessels are operating. This is not an off-the-shelf service offering. Every vessel and operator has different requirements, and our understanding of the engines, their operating history and individual vessel needs allows us to anticipate challenges, inform maintenance decisions and provide targeted technical support wherever it is needed.”
Global Service by WinGD expands lifecycle support
Launched in 2025, Global Service by WinGD combines the company’s two-stroke engine design expertise, built over more than 125 years, with a worldwide network for field service, technical assistance, spare parts and digital support.
The service model extends WinGD’s involvement beyond the initial delivery of engines, providing operators with access to the original equipment manufacturer’s technical expertise throughout a vessel’s operational life.
The latest agreements add to WinGD’s portfolio of long-term service contracts and reflect the company’s continued expansion in the LNG carrier segment.
