HTEC opens first public hydrogen station in Canada

The Hydrogen Technology and Energy Corporation (HTEC) has opened the first hydrogen fuel station opened to the public in Vancouver Island. As part of the firm’s partnership with 7-Eleven, the new facility has been built at an Esso gas station in the Saanich district.

According to a report by local news, the new station is the fruit of the province’s CleanBC Go Electric program and Canada’s Natural Resource initiative for alternative fuel deployment. The former donated $500,000 while the latter contributed with one million dollars.

Colin Armstrong, President of HTEC, stated that the company has now a total of four hydrogen stations in operation, with more sites scheduled to open in the coming months. In addition, Norman Hower, Vice-President of 7-Eleven Canada, added that the company is looking to reduce its stores’ carbon emissions by 100% from 2013 levels by 2050.
