Eni and Rina sign biofuels pact

Italian energy firm Eni and compatriot class society Rina have joined forces to accelerate the implementation of green fuels as part of the energy transition and decarbonisation of maritime transport.

The deal will focus on the use of hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) biofuel produced by Eni as well as low-carbon energy carriers such as blue or green hydrogen and ammonia.

The cooperation will also look into developing initiatives for the logistics and value chain of new energy carriers, as well as the adoption of verified methodologies for the taxonometric calculation of the positive environmental impacts they would generate.

Eni and Rina said they will also consider carrying out trials and pilot projects on onboard CO2 capture.
