Anglo-Eastern launches digital platform to enhance vessel sustainability and performance

09 October 2025 | Hong Kong — The Anglo-Eastern Univan Group, a global leader in independent ship management, has launched its new Sustainability and Performance Services (SAPS) — a digital solution designed to help shipowners, charterers, and operators navigate the challenges of maritime decarbonisation and enhance vessel performance through data-driven insights.

According to Anglo-Eastern, the platform combines artificial intelligence (AI) with real-time vessel and voyage data to optimise fuel efficiency, improve voyage planning, and support compliance with evolving international and regional environmental regulations.

A digital response to maritime decarbonisation challenges

SAPS has been developed as a comprehensive tool to manage the growing complexity of regulatory frameworks such as the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), FuelEU Maritime, and the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII). The service encompasses seven key areas:

  • Crew training and empowerment
  • Vessel performance monitoring
  • Vessel inspection and optimisation
  • AI-enabled performance forecasting
  • Charter-specific performance contracts
  • Paint performance and advisory
  • Environmental and compliance audit services

Niraj Nanda, Chief Commercial Officer at Anglo-Eastern, said the new service represents the company’s ongoing commitment to technology-led efficiency and sustainability.

“SAPS exemplifies Anglo-Eastern’s dedication to innovation and sustainable shipping. By harnessing cutting-edge technology, we help our clients significantly reduce fuel consumption – one of the largest operational expenses – while navigating the growing complexity and cost of compliance. With regulatory requirements evolving rapidly, the cost of staying compliant now often exceeds fuel costs themselves. SAPS provides the intelligence and tools needed to manage both efficiently.”

Real-world results from extensive fleet trials

The SAPS platform has already been deployed across Anglo-Eastern’s managed fleet as part of an extensive testing phase between 2023 and 2025. During this period, the system monitored over 800 vessels across nearly 46,000 voyages, trained more than 4,300 crew members, and analysed 739,000 performance reports.

According to Anglo-Eastern, these efforts resulted in a reduction of over 700,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions and 225,000 tonnes of fuel savings, translating into cost savings of approximately USD 135 million.

Swapnodeep Mondal, Group Managing Director of Operations and Shared Services, said the platform is designed to integrate technology with operational expertise.

“This marks a significant step forward. SAPS is more than a service offering; it’s a holistic platform that brings together the deep expertise of our sustainability and performance teams with intelligent technology. This enables us to support our full base of clients and their charter parties with tailored insights and hands-on guidance that drive meaningful operational outcomes.”

Intelligent analytics for performance optimisation

The platform provides real-time voyage optimisation using weather data, vessel condition, and operational constraints, as well as predictive fuel consumption modelling with scenario-based recommendations. Other capabilities include automated compliance management and user-friendly dashboards that improve collaboration between onboard and onshore teams.

Vipin Achan, Head of Performance at Anglo-Eastern, added:

“From first mile to last tonne – we make performance more than a metric, but a habit that cultivates operational excellence.”

Subscription-based model for digital transformation

Offered as a subscription-based service, SAPS reinforces Anglo-Eastern’s strategy to drive digital transformation in ship management, supporting clients in achieving both commercial and environmental objectives.
