FedEx introduces FSI tool for carbon measurement

FedEx  launched a new tool to help customers understand about the carbon emissions of their shipment. Through this new tool- FedEx Sustainability Insights (FSI), can measure carbon footprint of their shipments within the FedEx network. They can use the data to help make informed decisions on their future shipping strategy to reduce their impact on the planet.
Sustainability in the supply chain ecosystem has become imperative now more than ever as it plays a vital role in climate change. According to a study by UNGC-Accenture, supply chain generate around 60% of all carbon emissions globally. Hence, it is important to take steps on reducing the carbon emissions from supply chain needs.

The tool has been created by FedEx’s cloud-based data engine FedEx Dataworks, which uses near-real-time data to estimate CO2e emissions. Customers can view emissions data for individual tracking numbers as well as aggregate historical data for their accounts. Data displayed in the tool includes mode of transport, service type, and country or territory for all eligible FedEx Express shipments. This new service is among the company’ ongoing efforts to achieve carbon neutral operations by 2040. FedEx is focusing on areas such as electrification of FedEx pickup and delivery vehicles; more efficient facilities, fuels, and fleets; and investments in natural carbon capture.
