Ethanol plant will start in Kawardha of Chhattisgarh from April 2023. This will be the first ethanol plant in the state to be built on the PPP model.
According to the state government, initially, 80 kilo litres of ethanol will be produced per day in the plant located near Bhoramdev Sugar Factory. For this, after the global tender, an agreement has been signed between Bhoramdev Cooperative Sugar Factory and NKJ Biofuel. Ethanol will be made from sugarcane juice in season and molasses in off season.
The in-principle approval has been received from the Central Government for mixing ethanol in petrol and diesel. According to experts, the production of ethanol is expected to bring down the price of petrol and diesel in the state. Sugarcane is cultivated in an area of 30,000 hectares in Kawardha district. There are 450 small jaggery factories, of which 250 are operational.
