Goltens Partners with Orcan Energy to Expand Marine Waste Heat Recovery Solutions

Goltens Worldwide has entered a strategic agreement with Orcan Energy AG to support the global deployment of waste heat recovery systems in the maritime sector. The collaboration names Goltens as a preferred and authorized engineering and installation partner for Orcan’s Marine Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) systems.

Headquartered in Munich, Orcan Energy specializes in converting low-temperature waste heat from ship engines into clean electrical power through its modular ORC technology. With this agreement, Goltens will deliver engineering, project management, installation, and commissioning services for Orcan’s systems from its international network of service hubs.

The partnership is aimed at helping shipowners and operators meet energy efficiency and emissions reduction targets mandated under the Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI), Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII), and upcoming FuelEU Maritime regulations. Orcan’s ORC technology has been class-approved and is compatible with a wide range of vessel types.

“Partnering with Goltens is a major step in expanding our presence in the maritime industry,” said Andreas Sichert, CEO of Orcan Energy. “Waste heat recovery offers immense potential for efficiency gains. More than 100 terawatt-hours of thermal energy go unused in shipping every year. By combining our ORC systems with Goltens’ global retrofit capabilities, we can help the industry convert this energy into usable power.”

Sandeep Seth, CEO of Goltens Worldwide, said the agreement reflects the company’s continued commitment to decarbonization. “Orcan Energy’s ORC technology is a valuable addition to our retrofit solutions portfolio. We look forward to enabling shipowners to achieve measurable performance and emissions improvements using this advanced system.”

Goltens will conduct engineering assessments, feasibility studies, and develop full turnkey solutions tailored to vessel-specific needs. The systems are fuel-agnostic and suitable for both newbuilds and retrofit projects.

Orcan Energy has previously partnered with Alfa Laval to integrate its ORC solutions, and the addition of Goltens further strengthens its marine market reach. The company’s systems have demonstrated consistent performance in reducing emissions and enhancing energy efficiency across different vessel classes.
