HD Hyundai Samho Delivers First Very Large Ammonia Carrier

HD Hyundai Samho has delivered a very large ammonia carrier for the first time since the company’s founding, drawing attention.

HD Hyundai Samho said on the 27th that it recently delivered the 93,000-cubic-meter very large ammonia carrier “Jane Maersk” to Danish shipping company Maersk.

The delivery is regarded as a case demonstrating HD Hyundai Samho’s technological competitiveness in the next-generation eco-friendly ship market.

The Jane Maersk is the first very large ammonia carrier built by HD Hyundai Samho. It is the first vessel in a series totaling 10 ships. The vessel measures 221 meters in length, 36.5 meters in width and 23.6 meters in height.

It is designed to transport both liquefied ammonia and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The subsequent vessels are scheduled to be delivered sequentially by September 2028.

Ammonia has a higher density than LPG and is more corrosive and toxic.

As a result, it requires a higher level of hull design and unloading systems than conventional LPG carriers. HD Hyundai Samho applied a “high liquid level alarm” to the Jane Maersk that operates only under ammonia loading conditions. The device focuses on reducing the operator’s handling burden and lowering the possibility of misloading.

Meanwhile, HD Hyundai Samho’s ship orders this year stood at 30 vessels worth 4.08 billion dollars as of that day. This achieved 83.2% of its annual order target of 4.9 billion dollars.
