An electrolysis-based green hydrogen plant is being developed by Hindustan Petroleum Corp. Ltd (HPCL) which will have a capacity of 370 tpa (tonnes per annum) at its Visakhapatnam Refinery in Andhra Pradesh. HPCL has spent INR 11 crore ($1.34 million) till date out of the total fund allocation of INR 33 crore for this project. The project is scheduled for completion in September this year.
This information was shared by Rameswar Teli, union minister of state for petroleum & natural gas, in a written reply to a question in the lower parliament (Lok Sabha).
In a separate reply, R.K. Singh, union minister of new & renewable energy and power, said India Hydrogen Alliance, a private body, has reached out to the state government of Andhra Pradesh for a proposed green hydrogen hub structure under a public-private partnership model. Several entities have announced plans to manufacture electrolyzers in India, including in Andhra Pradesh. These are still at preliminary stage.
