JSW Infrastructure, a key arm of the JSW Group, is preparing to make a significant leap into the green energy sector by developing capabilities in green hydrogen and green ammonia at its port facilities. This move marks a pivotal shift in the company’s strategy, signaling its intent to support India’s clean energy transition and align with national sustainability targets.
By integrating renewable energy solutions into its core port and logistics operations, JSW Infrastructure aims to reduce its carbon footprint while opening new avenues for growth. The initiative complements India’s ambitious target of producing 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030 and reflects the evolving role of ports as enablers of decarbonisation rather than contributors to emissions.
The company’s planned ventures will focus on establishing infrastructure for the production, storage, and export of green hydrogen and green ammonia—two critical fuels in the journey to net-zero emissions. These green molecules are especially important for decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors such as shipping, fertilisers, and heavy industries.
This strategic diversification underscores a broader movement among Indian corporates to incorporate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into business operations. In addition to advancing India’s hydrogen mission, JSW Infrastructure’s plans are expected to open doors to global collaborations, access to green capital, and partnerships in clean technology.
