Maersk enters into methanol supply agreement with Debo Energy

AP Moller – Maersk has entered into agreement with Debo Energy to purchase green methanol to provide secure fuel supply for Maersk’s 16,000 teu, methanol-powered, containerships.

As per the agreement, Debo will produce around 200,000 tons green methanol annually, which is expected to commence commercial service in September 2024.

In 2024, Maersk will introduce the first in a series of its large ocean-going container vessels capable of being operated on carbon neutral methanol built by Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Earlier, Maersk has signed agreements with six companies – CIMC ENRIC, European Energy, Green Technology Bank, Orsted, Proman, and WasteFuel – for at least 730,000 tonnes of green methanol by 2025.
