Marine B30 Biofuel Prices Fall in Key Bunkering Markets

Marine B30 Biofuel Prices Fall in Key Bunkering Markets as Singapore Sales Rise

Prices for B30 marine biofuel blends declined across several major bunkering hubs in the week ending September 22, 2026, with the sharpest reductions recorded in Gibraltar, Lisbon and Singapore. The price movements narrowed the premium of bio-blended fuels over conventional marine fuels in some markets, while Singapore recorded a 48% increase in biofuel bunker sales during August.

B30 marine fuel generally comprises 30% biofuel and 70% conventional bunker fuel. The grades assessed include B30-VLSFO, blended with very low sulphur fuel oil, and B30-LSMGO, based on low sulphur marine gasoil.

Rotterdam Sees Mixed Movements Across Biofuel Grades

In Rotterdam, B30-VLSFO produced using palm oil mill effluent methyl ester (POMEME) fell by $17 per metric tonne during the week. Conventional VLSFO declined by a larger $24 per tonne over the same period.

B30-LSMGO moved in the opposite direction, rising by $17 per tonne to $1,476 per tonne. The increase broadly tracked the $19 per tonne rise in conventional LSMGO prices in Rotterdam.

Pure biofuel prices also increased. Rotterdam’s B100 price climbed by $209 per tonne to $1,418 per tonne, while POMEME barge prices rose by $35 per tonne to $2,059 per tonne.

Dutch renewable energy transport tickets also declined during the period. ZRE A tickets fell from €200 to €190 per tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent.

Gibraltar Records Sharpest B30-VLSFO Decline

Gibraltar recorded the largest weekly reduction among the markets assessed. Its UCOME-based B30-VLSFO price fell by $166 per tonne, while conventional VLSFO prices remained broadly unchanged.

The movement reduced the premium of B30-VLSFO over conventional VLSFO by $172 per tonne to $250 per tonne.

Lisbon also recorded significant declines. Its B30-VLSFO price fell by $107 per tonne, leaving it $9 per tonne above the Gibraltar price. A week earlier, Lisbon’s B30-VLSFO had traded at a $50 per tonne discount to the Gibraltar market.

Lisbon’s B30-LSMGO price declined by $115 per tonne to $1,600 per tonne, while its B100 price fell by $215 per tonne to $1,665 per tonne.

Singapore B30-VLSFO Premium Narrows

Singapore’s UCOME-based B30-VLSFO price declined by $56 per tonne during the week. Conventional VLSFO prices at the major bunkering hub increased by $5 per tonne.

The opposing movements narrowed the premium for B30-VLSFO over conventional VLSFO by $61 per tonne.

The price reduction coincided with stronger demand for bio-blended marine fuels in Singapore. Biofuel bunker sales increased by 48% in August to approximately 57,000 tonnes, the highest monthly volume recorded since April.

Biofuel blends can be used in existing vessel engines and bunker infrastructure, subject to applicable technical specifications and sustainability requirements.

Hong Kong B30-VLSFO Remains Below Singapore

Hong Kong’s B30-VLSFO was assessed at $1,015 per tonne, $35 per tonne below the Singapore price.

Within the Hong Kong market, however, the blend remained at a $109 per tonne premium to conventional VLSFO.

The latest price movements highlight the differences in marine biofuel economics between major bunkering locations. Feedstock costs, conventional bunker fuel prices, local incentives and the availability of certified biofuel components continue to influence the cost and competitiveness of B30 marine fuel blends.
