MVGX Tech, a Singapore-based provider of sustainable AI and green finance technology, participated in the 2025 World Maritime Merchants Forum (WMMF), where industry leaders convened under the theme “Steering Sustainability through Changes.” Discussions centred on coordinated approaches to decarbonisation, digitalisation, and regulatory alignment across the global maritime sector.
A key outcome of the forum was the release of two new industry group standards developed by multiple organisations, with significant involvement from MVGX. The standards include:
- Calculation Methods for Life Cycle GHG Intensity of Marine Fuels
- Verification for Attained Annual Greenhouse Gas Fuel Intensity of Ships
New Standards Introduce Structured Frameworks for Emissions Accounting
The standards address longstanding gaps in emissions accounting and verification for marine fuels. Both documents outline systematic methods for calculating and validating life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions, spanning raw material sourcing, production, transportation, storage, and onboard consumption.
The frameworks are intended to provide consistency for low-carbon reporting while aligning domestic methodologies more closely with International Maritime Organization (IMO) requirements. This alignment is expected to support China’s contribution to global discussions on green maritime governance.
The calculation standard offers structured guidance for assessing fuel pathways and planning emissions-reduction strategies. The verification standard establishes a complete technical framework for evaluating and assuring compliance with GHG intensity requirements.
Link to MVGX’s Fuel Optimization and Data Platforms
The introduction of these standards coincides with the upcoming global launch of OptiFuel EU and AIPoS Platform, two MVGX solutions designed to support fuel optimisation and sustainability data management.
OptiFuel EU is built to meet FuelEU Maritime and EU ETS requirements. It uses intelligent algorithms to optimise fuel consumption and fuel mix selection, aiming to reduce operational fuel expenses and regulatory exposure.
AIPoS Platform automates the collection, processing, and analysis of marine fuel data, providing shipping companies with a centralised system to support informed decarbonisation decisions and improve data governance.
Both offerings are aligned with the newly released standards, allowing maritime stakeholders to integrate compliance, cost management, and operational decision-making within a unified digital framework.
MVGX stated that further details on the global launch of these products will be announced soon.
