Qatar Gas Transport Company Limited (Nakilat) has named its latest LPG/ammonia carrier, Energy North, at the HD Hyundai Samho shipyard in Yeongam, South Korea.
The vessel is scheduled to enter service on October 2, 2026, and is the first ship delivered under Nakilat’s programme to construct six vessels at the South Korean shipyard. The programme comprises two LNG carriers and four LPG/ammonia carriers.
Energy North designed for LPG and ammonia transport
Energy North has a cargo capacity of 88,000 cubic metres and is designed to transport both liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and ammonia.
The vessel is equipped with dual-fuel propulsion technology and emissions-reduction systems intended to improve fuel efficiency and provide operational flexibility. Its ammonia-ready design is intended to support future requirements for lower-carbon energy transportation.
Commenting on the vessel’s addition to the fleet, Nakilat CEO Abdullah Al Sulaiti said: “The addition of the first vessel under Nakilat’s fleet expansion program marks another important milestone in our journey and reflects continued commitment to developing a modern and diversified fleet capable of supporting the global energy transportation sector efficiently and reliably. This achievement also embodies our vision to strengthen Nakilat’s position as a trusted leading global partner in maritime transportation.”
Al-Sulaiti added: “This achievement also highlights the strength of our collaboration with HD Hyundai Samho and the dedication of all project teams involved in progressing these vessels to this important stage. Nakilat remains focused on operational excellence, innovation, and long-term sustainable growth.”

Nakilat’s six-vessel construction programme
Energy North is the first of six vessels being built for Nakilat at HD Hyundai Samho. The construction programme includes four LPG/ammonia carriers and two LNG carriers.
The investment forms part of Nakilat’s fleet expansion strategy as demand for the transportation of LNG, LPG, ammonia and other energy commodities develops across international markets.
The ammonia-ready capability of Energy North also provides flexibility for future energy supply chains as ammonia gains attention as a potential lower-carbon fuel and energy carrier.
