Waaree to Set Up 1.2 MTPA Green Ammonia Plant in Kakinada

The Andhra Pradesh government has approved a green ammonia production project proposed by Waaree Clean Energy Solutions Private Limited in Kakinada, adding another large-scale investment to the state’s emerging clean-energy and ammonia sector.

The company will establish a green ammonia production facility with an annual capacity of 1.20 million metric tonnes (MMT). The project has been granted administrative approval by the state government and is required to be completed within three years.

As part of the approval, the project has also been granted an exemption from electricity duty for a period of 15 years.

Kakinada Emerges as Green Ammonia Investment Location

The Waaree project comes amid growing interest in Kakinada as a production and export base for ammonia. Greenko is already developing a 1 MTPA ammonia project in the region.

According to the report, the two projects will follow different production pathways. Greenko’s project is expected to use natural gas, while Waaree’s facility will rely on renewable power generated from sources including solar and wind.

The availability of port infrastructure in Kakinada is another factor supporting investment in ammonia production. The port provides access to maritime routes, allowing producers to potentially transport and export ammonia by sea.
