Independent energy assurance provider DNV has completed a detailed technical review of Electric Hydrogen’s HYPRPlant, confirming its compliance with current industry benchmarks for process design, safety, and manufacturing practices.
The HYPRPlant is a modular electrolyzer system designed to produce hydrogen through electrolysis, using electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. The system incorporates high-current-density stacks within a standardized, pre-engineered product configuration aimed at reducing engineering complexity and on-site installation time. It is available in 75 MW, 100 MW, and 120 MW capacities and is built to deliver high power density, enabling fewer stacks per capacity unit while maintaining process efficiency.
DNV’s evaluation covered Electric Hydrogen’s proprietary proton-exchange membrane (PEM) technology, power electronics, system architecture, control systems, and warranty terms, with a focus on the company’s second-generation HYPRPlant. This version features enhancements such as improved fluid dynamics and better stack isolation.
To confirm performance metrics, DNV audited laboratory and pilot data collected between 2022 and 2025 and conducted live performance observation at the company’s Pioneer Plant in San Jose. The facility, a scaled demonstration site operating a commercial-grade electrolyzer stack, provided data on system efficiency, output pressure, purity, and degradation over time. The review also included a site inspection of Electric Hydrogen’s manufacturing operations in Devens, Massachusetts, where DNV noted the application of advanced quality controls and lean manufacturing techniques, including 5S and value-stream mapping.

Barnes, Executive Vice President and North America Energy Systems Director at DNV. “Electric Hydrogen’s HYPRPlant represents a major advancement for both new market entrants and experienced hydrogen producers.”
