Zinus has received this year’s leading maritime innovation award for its role in advancing vessel electrification and supporting ports in reducing emissions. The jury cited the company’s expanding international presence and the measurable impact of its automated shore power and charging systems.
Based on Norway’s west coast, Zinus develops cable management and charging technology that enables vessels to connect to clean electricity during port calls. Its high- and low-voltage solutions are now deployed in locations ranging from the Arctic to New Zealand, supporting ports and shipowners seeking to cut emissions and streamline operational processes.
At the award ceremony, Even T. Sagebakken, State Secretary for Ocean Policy, said:
“Zinus is a company that not only pushes technology forward but accelerates the shift to zero-emission maritime solutions. They have transformed how vessels connect to clean energy. With global reach, they are now a key driver of maritime electrification around the world.”
Global expansion and industry partnerships
In recent years, Zinus has expanded its international footprint from a local technology start-up to a global supplier. Its systems are now delivered to 19 countries across Europe, the Americas and Asia, supported by new offices in the United States and Italy. The company has also formed strategic partnerships with major industry players.
Håvard Tvedte, Interim CEO of Maritime CleanTech, commented:
“When a small Norwegian company goes from local quays to major ports worldwide, it proves that reliable, proven technology can travel. Zinus helps the industry cut emissions and streamline operations — and demonstrates that the transition isn’t just coming; it’s already underway.”
The award is backed by the Agenda Vestlandet foundation of Sparebanken Norge and is based on nominations from Maritime CleanTech partners. An industry jury selects the recipient each year to highlight companies contributing to maritime transformation.
Marion Remøy, Head of Ocean at Sparebanken Norge, noted:
“We’re pleased to support the work of Maritime CleanTech and its ambitious partners — and to honour a company like Zinus, which truly represents the bold and forward-thinking entrepreneurial spirit driving the green transition at sea.”
Role in collaborative maritime innovation
Zinus remains active within the Maritime CleanTech cluster, participating in joint projects designed to accelerate uptake of low-emission technologies. One recent example is a partnership with Wärtsilä, Corvus and The Switch on the world’s largest all-electric ferry, which will operate between Argentina and Uruguay.
Bjørn Sturle Hillestad, Vice President at Zinus, said:
“Among all those great companies, we are proud to receive such recognition for our work. We succeed because of our proven technology and our competent and dedicated employees. This is a highly ranked award in the maritime industry.” Zinus joins a group of past award recipients including Corvus Energy, Wilhelmsen, Østensjø, LMG Marin, Norled and SEAM.
