HEED Introduces India’s First Additively Manufactured Electric Hydrojet Propulsion System

HEED, a Mysuru-based marine deep-tech startup, has introduced what it says is India’s first additively manufactured electric hydrojet propulsion system. The technology has been designed, engineered, and tested entirely in-house, reflecting the growing push toward locally developed solutions in clean water mobility.

Electric Propulsion for Recreational Watercraft

The company is initially integrating the hydrojet system into fully electric jetboards aimed at the recreational watercraft market. These boards combine electric propulsion with lightweight design, forming HEED’s first commercial application of the technology. The company says this segment provides a foundation for delivering accessible and clean-powered mobility products.

Potential Across Future Marine Applications

According to HEED, the propulsion unit has been optimised for efficiency across varied Indian water conditions and could support wider applications beyond leisure craft. Potential future uses include high-performance vessels, passenger transport, defence assets, and cargo systems—areas aligned with India’s emerging blue economy ambitions.

In-House Engineering and Test Infrastructure

The hydrojet propulsion system is backed by a test bench and sensory platform developed internally by the startup. The setup enables detailed performance evaluation and real-time data capture, with load capabilities of up to 1,000 kg and force measurement up to 500 kgf (5 kN). The company says this allows the system to be tuned under realistic operating conditions, supporting further development for commercial and industrial use.

Strengthening Domestic Marine Technology Capabilities

HEED positions its work as part of India’s broader effort to advance indigenous marine engineering and clean mobility solutions. Based in Mysuru, the company combines additive manufacturing, hardware innovation, and systems engineering to address technical challenges in water-based transportation.
