ABS Issues Basic Design Review Certification to Hanwha Ocean for Standardised FPSO

ABS has issued a Basic Design Review (BDR) certification to Hanwha Ocean for a standardised floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel design intended for deepwater projects in South America and West Africa.

The certification covers Hanwha Ocean’s front-end engineering design (FEED) for the FPSO and follows ABS’s review of core design documentation and applicable technical standards for major systems, including the hull, topsides and mooring arrangement.

ABS has also issued an Approval in Principle (AiP) for the FPSO, incorporating design features intended to meet the requirements of its SUSTAIN-2 notation.

Sustainability Reviews Included

Alongside the design certification, ABS issued a Statement of Fact for Hanwha Ocean’s Project Sustainability Execution Plan.

The plan extends sustainability considerations into project execution by linking sustainability requirements with engineering deliverables, key performance indicators, assigned responsibilities and supporting verification evidence.

The approach is intended to provide a structured framework for integrating sustainability requirements into the engineering and execution stages of FPSO projects.

Standardised FPSO Design Targets Deepwater Markets

Hanwha Ocean has developed the FPSO as a repeatable, standardised floating platform aimed at improving the efficiency and scalability of conventional FPSO development.
