ChargeZone and Fresh Bus have expanded their electric mobility partnership, with an additional 400 electric buses set to join the Fresh Bus fleet supported by ChargeZone’s charging network. The expansion will increase the number of Fresh Bus vehicles backed by the network from 100 to 500.
The deployment is expected to take place over the next 15 months and will connect 20 cities and 17 additional towns across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
ChargeZone to Deploy 30 MW of Additional Charging Capacity
As part of the expanded partnership, ChargeZone will add 30 MW of dedicated charging capacity for Fresh Bus operations. This will be in addition to the 10 MW already deployed, taking the total dedicated capacity for the fleet to 40 MW.
The new infrastructure will also form part of ChargeZone’s broader plan to add 200 MW of charging capacity across its national network.
Once fully operational, the expanded network is expected to consume around 100 million units of electricity annually and support more than 20,000 passenger journeys each day. According to the companies, the transition to electric buses could reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 9,000 to 10,000 tonnes.
Expansion Targets Intercity Electric Bus Operations
ChargeZone founder and CEO Kartikey Hariyani said the expansion reflects the potential of commercial mobility to accelerate electric vehicle adoption.
“Commercial mobility, particularly intercity public transport, can play a critical role in taking electrification to scale,” Hariyani said.
Fresh Bus founder Sudhakar Reddy said the larger fleet would expand the company’s electric intercity operations, while charging infrastructure would remain an important requirement for running buses across multiple routes.
ChargeZone currently operates more than 15,000 charging points across over 1,200 locations in India and the UAE. Fresh Bus operates an all-electric intercity bus network in India.
