Greek containership owner Danaos Shipping has signed a deal with South Korea’s Daehan Shipbuilding for the construction of four 7,200 teu vessels. The four vessels are expected to be delivered to Danaos in the first half of 2024.
Greece-based independent shipowner Danaos has a large fleet of container ships and said the order was a statement of its intent to remain a ’major player’ in the segment.
South Korea’s Daehan Shipbuilding sealed the deal with Danaos to construct the newbuild vessels, having recently taken on its first box ship construction order in October 2021. At the time, the company said it had been working hard to develop a strategic ship type that can be built simultaneously with a medium-sized ship in a single dock.
