K Line Names Newbuilding LNG Carrier Toho Emerald for Toho Gas

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (K Line) has named its latest LNG carrier Toho Emerald at a ceremony held at a Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea on September 9, 2026.

The vessel is owned through T.K. LNG Shipping Pte. Ltd., a Singapore-based joint venture between K Line and Toho LNG Shipping Co., Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Toho Gas Co., Ltd. The carrier is scheduled for delivery in October 2026 and will transport LNG, including cargoes for Toho Gas.

Toho Emerald Equipped With ME-GA Dual-Fuel Propulsion

Toho Emerald is designed with an ME-GA dual-fuel engine, with LNG as its primary fuel. The propulsion system is intended to support efficient vessel operations while reducing the environmental impact associated with LNG transportation.

The carrier has an overall length of approximately 290 metres, a beam of around 45.8 metres and LNG tank capacity of 174,000 cubic metres. It has a design speed of 19.5 knots.

The vessel is scheduled to enter service as part of LNG transportation operations supporting Toho Gas and the wider energy supply chain.

Joint Venture Owns LNG Carrier

T.K. LNG Shipping Pte. Ltd. was established in Singapore by K Line and Toho LNG Shipping to own LNG carriers and conduct LNG transportation activities.

The name Toho Emerald was selected to represent future-oriented development, foresight and stability. The companies said the name reflects their intention to contribute to stable energy supplies and the continued development and sustainable growth of the Toho Gas Group.

K Line Expands LNG Carrier Business

K Line identified LNG carriers as one of the businesses expected to drive growth under its Medium-Term Management Plan published in May 2022.

The company has said it intends to use long-term contracts to stabilise earnings, respond to increasing energy demand and expand its LNG carrier business while addressing the varied requirements of customers.

The addition of Toho Emerald will further expand K Line’s LNG transportation fleet and its involvement in long-term LNG transportation arrangements.
