UPL first agrochemical company to enter Dow Jones Sustainability Index

Global agrochemical manufacturer UPL Ltd announced that Dow Jones has included the company in its sustainability and emerging market indices.

In a filing to the stock exchanges, UPL stated that the company has made it to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) after its outstanding performance on sustainability parameters. It is the first agrochemical company included in the esteemed Dow Jones Sustainability World and Emerging Markets Indices (DJSI).

The DJSI is a globally renowned sustainability rating for Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG). The DJSI World Index includes the top 10% of major global companies by industry.

The company has also been included in the DJSI Emerging Markets Index, which measures 95% of the market valuation coverage of shares traded in emerging markets. DJSI Emerging Markets Index recognizes the top 10% of the largest 800 emerging market companies.

UPL mentioned that the two indices, DJSI and DJ Emerging Market Index are exclusive to the outstanding companies in sustainability performance.

The global provider of sustainable agriculture products and solutions achieved the highest scores in the agrochemical sector in the S&P Global 2023 Corporate Sustainability Assessment.

UPL with annual revenues of over $6 billion is one of the largest agriculture solutions companies. Its portfolio consists of biological and traditional crop protection solutions with more than 14,000 registrations. It is present in more than 130 countries.

The company last week announced forming Advanta Seeds Zambia Limited, a step-down subsidiary of Advanta Seed structure under Advanta Enterprises Limited, to carry out seeds and related business in Zambia.
