Paradip Port Strengthens Green Methanol Export Plans with Mitsubishi Gas Chemical and ACME Group

Paradip Port Authority (PPA) has held discussions with a high-level delegation from Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company (MGC) and ACME Group to advance the development of a green fuel export ecosystem centred on Paradip Port in Odisha.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration for the export of green methanol and other green hydrogen derivatives, supporting India’s ambition to become a major supplier of low-carbon fuels to international markets.

Collaboration Supports Green Methanol Export Project

The Japanese delegation was led by Hideaki Akase, Managing Executive Officer of Mitsubishi Gas Chemical, and Masahiko Naito, Executive Officer, who met with PPA Chairman P. L. Haranadh and Deputy Chairperson T. Venu Gopal.

The discussions build on a previously announced 10-year offtake agreement under which ACME Group will supply 100,000 tonnes of green methanol annually to Mitsubishi Gas Chemical from its upcoming production facility at Paradip.

The project forms part of Odisha’s ₹67,000 crore investment pipeline covering green hydrogen, green ammonia and green methanol projects.

Paradip Port Eyes Role as Green Energy Export Hub

According to Paradip Port Authority, the discussions focused on developing integrated infrastructure to support the large-scale export of sustainable fuels, including green methanol and other green hydrogen derivatives.

The port’s deep-draft berths, cargo handling infrastructure and multimodal connectivity are expected to support future exports as demand for low-carbon fuels grows.

P. L. Haranadh, Chairman of Paradip Port Authority, said:

“Paradip Port is fully equipped to emerge as a leading gateway for green energy exports, sustainable marine fuels, and clean cargo logistics.”

Green Fuel Demand Expected to Grow

The collaboration comes as the global shipping industry increases its focus on alternative marine fuels to comply with tightening decarbonisation requirements under the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

Green methanol is emerging as one of the leading alternative fuels for shipping due to growing vessel orders and expanding bunkering infrastructure worldwide.

The partnership between Paradip Port Authority, Mitsubishi Gas Chemical and ACME Group aims to establish an export value chain capable of supplying international markets with low-carbon fuels produced in India.
