Acta Marine Christens Methanol Dual-Fuel CSOV Acta Hercules for Offshore Wind Operations

Dutch offshore vessel operator Acta Marine has formally christened its Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV) Acta Hercules in IJmuiden, the Netherlands, marking the latest milestone in the company’s four-vessel newbuild programme.

The christening ceremony took place on September 30 and was attended by stakeholders, clients, business partners and company employees.

Delivered in March 2026, Acta Hercules is the second vessel in the series and is operating under a five-year charter with Vestas. The CSOV is supporting offshore wind construction activities across Northwest Europe, with its first assignment at the Hollandse Kust West offshore wind project in the Netherlands.

Methanol dual-fuel propulsion and battery system

Acta Hercules is equipped with methanol dual-fuel engines and a battery energy storage system.

The propulsion and energy systems are designed to support vessel operations while enabling the use of methanol as an alternative marine fuel. The battery system can also support onboard energy management and operational efficiency.

The vessel is already working on the Hollandse Kust West project under its Vestas charter.

Rob Boer, CEO, Acta Marine, said that although the vessel is already supporting Vestas, the christening offered a chance to recognise the many people, partners and organisations involved in its development, construction and delivery. He added that Acta Hercules strengthens the company’s ability to serve clients in the fast-growing offshore wind market.

Three CSOVs delivered from Tersan Shipyard

Acta Marine has taken delivery of three of the four CSOVs ordered from Tersan Shipyard in Türkiye.

The vessels delivered so far are Acta Pegasus, Acta Hercules and Acta Gemini. Acta Gemini has been chartered by RWE to support operations at the Sofia offshore wind farm in the UK.

The fourth vessel, Acta Aquarius, is expected to be delivered later in 2026.

The newbuild programme is expanding Acta Marine’s presence in the offshore wind service vessel segment as developers and contractors deploy larger fleets to support construction, commissioning and operations at offshore wind farms.

Acta Marine fleet to reach seven dedicated offshore wind vessels

Following the delivery of Acta Aquarius, Acta Marine’s fleet is expected to comprise seven dedicated walk-to-work and construction service operation vessels.

The vessels are intended to support offshore energy projects throughout their operational lifecycle, including construction, commissioning and maintenance activities.

The expansion also increases the number of vessels in Acta Marine’s fleet equipped to use alternative fuels and energy-storage technologies, including methanol dual-fuel propulsion and battery systems.
